Fiddling Around with Furniture.

I have long been enamored with the idea of buying cheap furniture and making it into what you want. Luckily for me, I appear to be a catch all for unwanted furniture and therefore I have managed to get some real bargains!

First up is my desk chair from my craft room. I love the simple shape of this chair, and it's SO light so I can actually move it around. BUT the original seat fabric left a lot to be desired, and my craft room is mostly populated by black furniture, with punchy colourful accents.

I used sandpaper to make it so the paint could grab, and then I used Rustoleums white spray primer, with Rustoleum gloss spray in Navy Blue, it took about two full coats and a few touch ups to get an even coverage - but then again this was also my first attempt at spray paiting!
I then removed the original seat fabric and used my staple gun to attach an almost felted fabric, which is really nice and soft.
This is the ultimate before and after :

I actually had another one of these chairs, which I will ultimately repaint, however at the moment I have just recovered the seat with the same fabric. I also have another project I need to get around to painting, in my wicker linen basket. I have also recovered this, and would really like to eventually like to paint it a soft grey.

I also have an armchair reupholstry project which I will elaborate on in another post. As it took me so freaking long! It deserves it!

Assorted Butterflies..

Hey there everyone,

I was looking through Craftster about a year ago, and I came across this beautiful 'Butterfly specimen art' made by Pheonixfiredesigns, and I thought it was beautiful and I was thus inspired.
Seriously, Butterflies (which I'm technically scared of, but they are pretty and these are just paper) and rainbows - sounded perfect for some art for my craft room.

I'm lucky enough to have inherited my Grandmothers old butterfly paper punch, and had some canvasses lying around from an optimistic idea my Mother had to have all her children do some art for her. So, excellent free project!

I think that the framed version turned out better than mine, but for a free project I love it, it was fun and therapeutic to do and a good paper scrap-buster :)

Inspired by the success of my butterfly gradient, and in need of my annual pillow which I make for my best friend's birthday, I decided to do a fabric version of the idea, a rainbow gradient of fabric butterflies. Unfortunately I did not manage to get a good photo of this before sending it off to my friend! I interfaced all the fabrics and the 3-D butterflies are double sided, I did various embroidery stitches to attach the butterflies to the pillow, and finally mastered french knots!

Hope you enjoy! :)

Angry birds soft toys.

Hello Everyone!
Christmas 2011, I was very much inspired by the idea of making my brother Angry birds toys inspired by, and pattern available from, Obsessively Stitching (patterns available here). In true form this Christmas present turned into a Birthday present, and then I ended up making them and never got around to giving them!

I ended up printing off the pattern smaller than her originals, and used felt instead of fleece, however I'm pleased with how they came out in the end :)

They're very good fun, and I've been the subject of an angry bird bombardment by my housemate on more than one occasion!
